Australia's political capital has world's worst air pollution

Canberra has been rated as suffering the worst city air pollution in the world, from smoke produced by a record Australian bushfire season.

Canberra (ACT) is the city that is home to Australia's federal government, where Prime Minister Scott Morrison famously took coal into parliament and said "don't be afraid".

To date, more than a thousand homes have been lost to fire across multiple Australian states, with several people killed, millions of animals perished, and rainforest areas burned, possibly to never return.

Climate change is believed to be the driver behind the severity and broad spread of the fire season, with every Australian state suffering major bushfires in the past two years.
