The site www.infrastructurereportcard.org is by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

This incredibly detailed site reveals the state of the USA's bridges, dams, levees, rubbish tips, airports and more.

The revelations for those using some of these bridges, and living below some dams, are concerning.

According to the reports, in some states more than 10% of dams and bridges are structurally deficient or obsolete.

For example, here's a quote about bridges, from their North Carolina report: "Currently there are 13,558 state maintained bridges, including 5462 bridges that are structurally deficient and/or functionally obsolete."

And on North Carolina dams:" One-third of North Carolina’s dams are greater than 50 years old. Ten percent of North Carolina’s high
hazard dams are deficient. There is no consistent federal or state funding for public or private dam repairs. Only 28 percent of high hazard dams in North Carolina currently have Emergency Action Plans that meet FEMA guidelines ..."

The overall message is that much of the USA's infrastructure is ageing, and some of it has become hazardous.

This thread will be used to post ongoing examples of global infrastructure collapse.

Ohio train derails and crashes spilling thousands of litres of highly toxic chemicals, which are set on fire, a long-term ecological and human disaster feared.

Unions says it was a disaster that was always going to happen because of cutbacks.
