Arctic melt to date - animation

Post by Admin »

This graphic shows the 2019 Arctic melt season for June 1 to 19 in an animation. We will update further in due course as the melt progresses.

2019 may be a record melt year, with 2016 and 2012 being the previous worst years for the Arctic.

The beige colour is ice 50cm thick or more. It was once-upon-a-time metres thick. In coming years the beige will likely disappear. The planet is rapidly leaving the "Beigeocene" epoch.

It is from the first Arctic "Blue Ocean Event" when global conditions will probably start changing fast for mankind. Heat that was once melting the ice will then go straight into heating the water. One can assume this will substantially change the planet's climate.

When the "Blue Ocean Event" happens is anyone's guess but it looks like it will happen sooner than expected.
