The Australian region saw two May cyclones in 2019. Cyclone Lili was off Dili in East Timor (now gone) and Cyclone Ann was in the Coral Sea as this post was typed, moving towards the Australian state of Queensland, see attachment.
The official cyclone season is November to April. May cyclones have been historically rare.
EDIT: BOM statistics ... two cyclones in May in the Australian region has happened four times since 1970. Single May cyclones have happened fairly often, and there have been later cyclones, so May cyclones can not be pinned on climate change.
The Weather Bureau says increasing heat and more intense cyclones can be expected under climate change, and there may be fewer cyclones.
